every year at xmas we travel to a different location to fish this year we are looking at mondy for a break. could any of you tell me what the dam is like at xmas, is it really busy, is it worth the effort with the crowds, and are the fish ready to play by then.
any info would be much appreciated

Hi Kel,
We spent Xmas up there a couple of years ago. There were plenty of boats on the water, but its a pretty big dam and easy enough to get away from most of them especially if you fish at night (best time IMHO).
The water traffic does seem to slow them down a bit, but not so much traffic at night. I would think the fish would be biting better than they are at the moment, but I have only caught 1 so I am no expert. ::)
Trolling the basin at nite would be my best bet and just after a storm near the dam wall I am told.
Its darn hot during the days and we were searching for shade quite a bit. That was before we got the t top tho.
My plan for fishing Mondy in summer would be to fish deep drop offs and creeklines in the mornings and afternoons with slickies and sinking xraps and crystal minnows, and cast a bit shallower at night (maybe suspending lures) and troll the main basin at nite with slickies, one near the top and deep divers.
Have a search in the Freshwater reports section for reports from December/January. They may give you a bit of an idea what its like, but the water level is way higher now.
Hope that helps
Steve
