Hi guys,

Still new to the forum (been reading for a while), and in an effort to move from landbased fishing to being able to access the rest of the river here in Bundaberg, me and a mate have ordered kayaks8-)

They are from a mob called 'Sunnycoast Kayaks' based at Sexton, near Gympie. It seems they only sell one type of kayak, but they have bits and pieces added for different uses.

We are each getting a fishing number 2 setup, that has 2 rod holders, highback seat rest, paddle, paddle attachment/strap, dry centre hatch, and a hatch at the front and back.
After looking around this seemed like a decen cheap option to getting on the water. We are picking them up Sunday.

Anyway, has anyone heard of these guys or dealt with them?
Just wondering on others feedback regarding the yaks?

Also, are there any other Bundaberg based kayak fishermen on here who would be keen to head out, and maybe share some tips on how to get the most out a yak in person?

Will post some pics once we get them, and the camera starts working again.

So first impressions of the kayak is good.
Picked up from Eric at Sexton QLD, where he gave us a tour of the moulding factory, and showed us the features of the new yaks. He seemed friendly to deal with, answered questions, and gave some useful info.
Also, these kayaks strap nicely to the roof of a sedan, with one on top of the other upside down, and each facing opposite ends.

Went out this sat morning onto the Burnett River, and tested them out. Solid stable kayaks, with pretty damn comfortable seats. Paddled for about 1.5 hours during the 3 hr trip, and didn't even get a sore back.
Caught 3 undersized bream, but nothing decent.

Went out again on Sun at Elliott Heads for the incoming tide. Paddled for ages there getting around to different spots as the tide came in. Yaks held up well in the current, with 1.5kg anchors. Caught 2 small bream and a small flathead, but again nothing decent.

Anyway, still waiting on the camera for pics, but will continue refining the onboard tackle boxes, and strengthening the arms, and should get out again this weekend with some live bait to hopefully improve our catch.

Nice going Murdoch, welcome to the world of yak fishing, good to see you enjoying your new ride. There are plenty of yaks around these days and also a few kayak fishing specific forums where you can get some great ideas on extra's to add to your new toy. Good luck and looking forward to seeung you holding a big angry jack on your next report.
