Hi;
For those of you travelling to Singapore, go to the 6 or 7 local fishing tackle shops in Beach Road. They are all in a 200m stretch opposite the Park Royal near Arab Street. You can usually negotiate rods and reels at around 20% below their offered prices e.g. Shimano Baitrunner 12000D at Sing$230 = AU$187 and general bottom gear is already MUCH cheaper than in Australia - e.g. Flourescent leaders at around AU$10 for 50m, top branded hooks at half price, Lucanus and Sure Catch octo & knife jigs at around AU$6-8 each.

What I found really interesting was that ALL 6 dealers I visited were almost out of Shimano reel stock as they said there was about to be a huge price drop worldwide!!!

A lot of you may just go via Singapore to the UK and Thailand etc so a stopover for 6 hours (i.e. defer your ongoing flight to the next one) could see you rewarded with some great gear at good prices.
Cheers

PS: Dont let the wife go near Orchard Road otherwise you will lose your savings! LOL

Did you happen to see how much the Shimano Stella reels were going for?

Hi Daintreeboy;
I asked and looked around and (from memory) they were all priced around Sing$ 890-990 prior to discount. I cant remember the models but they were at the larger end of the scale. Thats about AU$720 to AU$800 before any negotiation.

Suggest you google up their Singapore phone numbers and give them a call to discuss. Most of them seemed really nice to deal with and their English is excellent. I didn't ask if they despatched to Australia but would have thought they probably will.

Just be a bit careful. A couple of the shops in the area are aimed at the Japanese market and quote higher prices than in Australia.

Cheers
