advice coloured braid

after all the good advice here,ive decided to change my braid to about 4lb.is there any disadvantages using floro colours like a green.i seen a guy on a fishimg show this morning loaded with it and thought it could be handy with my fading eyesight.lol.im guessing it would be heaps easier to see,but even though i would have a leader,is it possible to scare the fish ,so to speak.regards john

I recon the colour of your braid won't make too much diff. The only thing I used to avoid was the fluro braid in crystal clear water but one day I packed the wrong reels and landed quite a few more than others with me useng stealthier colours.

It is a big advantage using bright or contrasting colours for your braid. The first 60cm of line that leaves the water is your strike indicator for less noticeable bites. The easier you can see that section of line the better. Your leader will be sufficiently long enough not to put the fish off.

Not that theres anything wrong with the strenght of the braid but the colour fades pretty quick if you get your braid off ebay..

Having said that they do advertise a braid that when it get wet go's translucent!!!see above.

i got some 10lb in the pink and thats like cotton, 4 will be like hair.

I made the mistake of buying 4lb black microfused line, and it's bloody hard to tie knots in. Never again! Stick to the bright colours.

Depends on the use as usual - particulalry the depth of water fished.

Colours disappear under water in line with the spectrum, red first, then orange, yellow,green, blue, indigo and violet. As green is in the middle of the spectrum you can expect the line to lose its colour somewhere between 5 and 10 metres under the water. (Ex scuba test).

If you are floatlining it or otherwise bottom fishing in shallow water then a longer fluoro carbon leader would be useful say 5m. If you are lure fishing then many lure fishers use fluro colours to assist in seeing the popper/lure position when winding in and the line of the cast and distance when casting towards a particular position.

Braid line does not disappear under water but becomes black or grey depending on the thickness of the line. Fluoro carbon leaders, at the low weight suggested, are invisible.
