Surf Rod ?

hi guys after a bit of info on a new surf rod.i have been thinking it is time to get back into beach fishing dusted off my old wilson pro glow and under the second runner the blank has split good reason to get a new one.i got the 650 alvey was thinking a gary howard greenback until i was shown a snyder magsurf white tip now the next words i dont know what they mean FHB DLX 30 85G was told it is 13f6.its a 2 peice just after anybodys opinion who may use it and also what the last number/letters stand for and what line kg it would be rated for also how many wraps ? thanks guys. mojoe

My Magsurf is over 20 years old and is still a great rod. Last year I considered the GH Greenback as a rod for casting heavier weights but decided on the Livefibre 13' RLF40 which is a fair brute of a stick but still nice and light

What are you going to be mainly fishing for, and what sort of weight will you be casting?
The Magsurf whitetip came in 2 models I believe, medium and heavy duty.
Very, very nice blanks both of them.
Make sure the reel seat is in the low position if you want to use an Alvey.

I own a GH Swallowtail, which I believe is a 12' 6" fiberglass blank. It's worth around $180 (I got it for cheaper) and I use a 650 Alvey on it. It's not too heavy, and I use it for hours without breaking my arms or back, as long as I have my rod belt on. I believe there's a graphite model as well, but it was a bit more expensive.

Hi there,

The greenbak tailor is a really nice light rod wit a great medium action tip which is great for chasing choppers and the occasional greenbak. I comfortably throw anything from a 6ball to a 10ball sinker. 8-10kg line works a treat wit this outfit.
I also have the synder magsurf as well the action is a little heavier not much and same deal as stated above but i use 10-12kg on this outfit.
It all depends wat u really want to chase wit these outfits as both are very similar and have caught plenty of good tailor on both.Would say one thing tho the magsurf felt unreal catching some good sized jew off the beach i felt in control. The greenbak i was a little concernd as this rod was bent more than 90 degress and struggled a little bit. Overall two great tailor rods greenbak being very light as well on the arms The mag surf has been around for a long time and is a proven rod of many beach fisherman.
The rlf 40 from live fibre is another option great option as i have just won 2 from the evans head comp just finished.I have only one concern wit live surf rods as alot of tailor fishos have they tend to crack towards the end tip quite easy as i worked in the tackle industry for a while seen alot come back. But they do feel amazing light and strong and very comfortable wit a great action..

My rods i use consist of
Greenbak for choppers and greenbaks 8-10kg X2
mag surf greenbaks and mediumn sized jew 10-12kg X2
Gary howard bulldog big greenbaks and big jew 15-20kg X3

All and all they are all very nice and well balanced surf rods which im sure u would be happy wit8-)

thanks for the reply guys good info have also seen the gh surf classic med it looks very much like the mag surf will need to make up my mind soon
