mearzie there are a heap of threads on here talking about spinning gear and a couple that are fairly new that will help a lot with a lot of rod and reel suggestions. Do a search in the tackle section and see how you go.
Also a budget helps people make suggestions but seeing as you are looking into a saltiga surf i guess the budget is good. For a start though i think the saltiga surfs retrieve rate is too slow. Look for something starting at 1m+ per turn.
BTW i also love the salmon, better fight pound for pound than most things we come across around here land based.

I went down this road a couple of months ago looking for a rod. See the link above. the rod i ended up buying was the 11ft, 15-30lb Penn Big Game Surf. Under $100 bought online. I've since been using it to spin for jewies and have been deadlifting soapies up to 80cm on it. am very happy with it. I can throw a 65g raider on 30lb braid about 100m without any trouble. I recently put depthfinder braid on the 6000 stradic i'm using cos i the same reel outside in the boat as well, so i've got a fair idea of the distance i'm achieving.
When spinning for tailor, i use 14lb braid and can throw out of sight.

Gary Howard Phantom or G model teamed with a 6000-8000 saragosa/spheros if you have more cash a Lamiglas Ron Arra teamed with a Twin Power (HS) 8000. I fish for salmon and tailor as well as Mackerel and Tuna with these outfits both do the job fine the lamiglas twinpower setup casts further feels nicer.

I,ve got a Saltiga surf while it's a great reel it's a bit slow for spinning. John, I'm looking at building a Ron Arra Surf, probably 9ft 2pce for surf rock spinning, how does yours perform, is it true to it's rating as some of the usa brands overate their blanks. thanks.

Nezevic is on the ball!
Can't go past this rod for value for money AND performance!
GREAT blank, and when the cheap guides go, put some expensive gear on and have another 5 years.
Have had 2 years out of my first rod, and still going, and the number 2 rod survived a badish (me and the rod) fall on the rocks around Lennox Point with only scratches. Not bad for a high modulus blank.
Incredible value for money.
Like nez. I fish the 11ft spin.
Regards, Rob.
