G'day

Anyone used these jigs for snapper? Look like they'd be sensational in the bay.

What weights for a given depth should be used, and any stand out colors?

Best place to buy?

Dave

Hi Dave;
Off Goldie I use 100-150gm bugsys or Lucanus in up to 70 m of water. On braid, fishing for snapper, they require just a little bit of movement rather than the faster jigging techniques. I have used a 250 gm octojig in 85m of water but the hooks are rather large at 10/0 on the fixed hook ones. Other anglers on these forums have commented about using 50-100gm 'lucani' with good success. Some Fish TV programmes have recently shown the 'dead stick' technique, where the lucanus jig is left to move up and down with the boat movement rather than jigging it.

Purple is always a good colour, but the ones I bought in Singapore have flourescent glitter strands as well.

I still prefer a freshly defrosted pillie or whole squid for snapper but when you get near your bag limit its worth playing with anything that goes!

Cheers
