G'day all,
How hard is it to find pipis and beach worms on the Goldie? I'd imagine beach worms wouldn't be too hard to find, but have the pipis gone the way of the dodo? Any beaches still producing either of these baits in ok numbers?
Thanks,
Kaidon

best bet is Nth Straddy - haven't seen any reliable numbers of pipi's for a long time on the goldy. Few worms around - or you can buy them at the coast also (live).
Makes you wonder - if u do use pipi's for bait - do fish know what they are ??? Are they considered no longer 'natural' to the local fish ?

dunno about pipis as I don't use them, but I think they're in pretty short supply due to years of abuse. I haven't had any problems finding worms and usually in thick patches. You'd be better off saving your time and efforts on the pipis and stick with the worms.

The whiting and dart seem to like the pippis on the Gold Coast. I have used them in the surf (frozen) and have had some success. I haven't had any success trying to gather my own on the Gold Coast.
Cheers

beachworms are very easy to find, and quite fun to catch
just wave some smelly fish over a sandbank on low tide and you will see their heads pop up
gently but quickly walk over to them and have a small piece of fish in your hand ready to tempt them back out.
they will stick their heads out again and this is when you have to let them grab hold of your little piece of fish.
when they get a good hold of the fish they will pop out a bit further, arch their back and try to pull it back under the sand.
by this stage you should have your other hand about 1cm under the sand and as close to the worms as though you can just feel their movements but not so close that you are touching them.
when you feel them begin to arch up this is when you must squeeze as hard and fast as you can.
after you get a good grip on them (may take a couple of seconds) then pull them out.
it can be extremely frustrating at the start but once you get the hang of it it gets easier and well worth it.
watch other youtube tutorials if you are still unsure.
