Recreational boating facilities demand forecasting

Closing date for feedback: 23 July 2010
The popularity of recreational boating in Queensland continues to increase as the state's population grows.

The number of boaties using the state's public boating facilities has increased the demand for new and improved boating facilities. Transport and Main Roads in partnership with local managing authorities (local government and port authorities) is responsible for the provision of recreational boating facilities throughout the state.

Transport and Main Roads is undertaking a state-wide Recreational Boating Facilities Demand Forecasting Study during 2010. The study will involve extensive consultation, data collection, demographic trend analysis, needs analysis, and demand forecasting for the future. In assessing future demand, consideration will be given to facility location, environmental constraints and opportunities, seasonal and holiday demand fluctuations, and the nature of recreational boating in the area.

The outcomes of the study will provide a solid basis to guide investment of funding in boating infrastructure from 2012-13 onwards.

Read a factsheet (PDF, 193.6 KB) (http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/~/media/msqfiles/home/about-us/msq-headlines/demand-forecasting-study/factsheet_dfs.pdf) about the recreational boating facilities demand forecasting study. How to have your say

Jeremy,

Another waste of time and money. How did you come across this site? I am sure that the state government must have a data base of all boat licence holders and those with boat registrations. I am sure that they would have had a better response if they had mailed out, or advised the people that use these facilities, of the web site link.

Not sure about a waste of time and money. Took me about 10 minutes to do the survey, and the more responses they get from rec fishoes with onfo on your local ramps, the better we will be. Can't hurt to give them the info, what they do with it is another thing.

I got wind of this via an email from Sunfish which was sent to me by a friend.

Jeremy,

Sorry. I thought you might have justed stumbled across it. If they have distibuted the survey through sunfish, then as you say it should not be a waste of time. I wish that they would make these things more widely known via other channels such as this and other web sites, where the average fisho frequent.

the only appropriate response to this form is to add every ramp the responder has used within 100km and in a condensed time frame....good chance that this forms outcomes will include those smaller single/double ramps that allow less populace access points to be culled as bigger ramps get upgraded.

if i know anything of government they can never understand or comprehend the reality of a past time such as ours and WILL easily justify the proposed culling of 50% of the lesser more specialised ramps by adding an upgrade of 20% across other popular ramps or some consideration to that effect. An effect where we will all loose when viewed across all user groups.

Thank god most of our access points and infrastructure was the result of a can do and competent community attitude 80 years old otherwise the majority would all have something like a 50km trip to the nearest access point....however flash those points may be.

There was an advert on a Townsville radio station yesterday encouraging people to get involved ! Sounded like it was from Department of Transport as well.
