Gday guys
Took a mate out jigging today, I slayed em on the 6:1 high speed reel whilst his 4:8.1 had nothing. He wants to purchase a high speed spin reel but doesnt want to spend more than say $120 bucks. He will probably only use it six times a year so he doesnt want to heavily invest.
I can't think of one off as the cheapest I know is the Okuma EFS 80 and it goes for arund $160. Can anyone provide some advice?

If he is getting into that sort of figure then I would push up to a Stradic. There were some good deals recently at around $220 or better still from OS

I've been using Okumas for years, and as long as you don't lock the drag (I fish with ca. 2Kg of drag on my EFS 60 with 12lbs mono), it will last several thousand casts and retrieves at full bore. Mine have accounted for tailors, trevs, macks...
They're not bullet proof and the paint job is shite, but they're dirt cheap (try minstor tackle on ebay) compared to Shimano and co.
Btw, they're pretty heavy reels for their size, so imo a size 60 is ideal.
Edit: Just noticed that you said "jigging"? If that's really the case, forget about the EFS, maybe the Salina II would cope but I don't know anyone who've tried.

Thanks Metaloid and Horse.
Metaloid I have been using an EFS80 for about 6 years now, caught a heap of GT and Spanish on it and it is still going strong. I think this is what he will go for as the Salina 2 is a bit more expensive

hes gotta go with the EFS80/60. spend that little bit extra cash and it will be well worth it. life time warranty aswell.
try minstor tackle on ebay
Metaloid, they only seem to have the EFS 50, as the biggest one in stock. How does that compare to the 60. No EFS 80 either. Any ideas

Go to ebay for okuma gear and you will save a heap. I wouldn't be surprised if you could find 5000 size salina ii for around $120 because I got one in 10 000 for $140ish delivered but I don't think the retrive rate is up around 6:1 that you're looking for.
