When I fish remote reefs where your likely to get monstered I use the same outfit for plastics as I do for popping for GT's/jigging etc.

I use a 18000 upgraded spheros, 80lb braid on a 15-24 T-curve rod.

Anything less is a waist of time IMO. unless maybe your fishing purely shoal country you can go lighter. but if you wanna land big trout you have to go heavy

yeh everytime i go up there i fish with bait and i fish with good quality rods and reels and dont use any drag because you cant give the buggers a chance. thats how i dont know what kind of setup is needed for the shallows at 4m or even when were just kellicked up for the night in 30m of water. thanks

i found I got alot more trout when I used plastics compared to bait. Thats when you need to fish hard with heavy gear if you wanna land anything above 5kg in shallow reefs.

Last time I was at the swains I popped across the shallow reef early morning, saw lots of trout landed.
You can cover lots of bommies to find em thing way aswell and no risk of snags.

Once the sun gets up I found I replaced my popper with plastics.

Also with a big spinner reel it can double up for any fishing situation, you can popper, jig, plastic and bottom fish with it if your main set-up craps itself.

I see alot of guys take their brisbane plastic outfit and get smoked all day long
