Am intersted in fishing for tailor in the next few months and have done so in the past using gang's and pilchards or mullet fillets. I was going to change up and use metal slugs i.e. raiders and was wondering if they work in low light i.e. dawn/dusk or at night for tailor. do you need the moon out or lumo around the slug or can they just simply see them.
Thanks Scott

G'day Scott,
I tried using raider lures for tailor during the day when they were thick many abou 8 years ago on the sand pumpoing jetty. I hooked upo each time but they spat the lure. I was to,d to put a stinger at thje back and never been able to catch on lures ever since.
I know there are a lot experts on here. so how about it guys. this includes girls, tell us what the go is?

Scott, slugs definately work on tailor at dawn /dusk with the faintest of glow from the sun. Havent had much luck on them at night though apart from trevalley. Around the full moon on a cloudless night could be your best bet. Poppers and minnows with lots of noise work on the darkest of nights though. Ben

Hi I have used metals at night with some success but there are better lures for tailor at night, you should be looking for a big lure that works on a slow retrieve. American surf anglers have used this technique for a while. Good luck for moire info pm me thanks

G'day hilly,
Yes mate I've trialed that method i.e. removing trebles and using ganged hooks, it works .
Are you still chasing greenbacks? Send me a pm when your ready, (a days notice for me) and I'll have my gear ready.

If you are looking for noise/movement for night luring, maybe try one of the slugs with a hole drilled through the centre(long ways). It will allow a trail of bubbles which should make some noise. Made some lures years ago from dental acrylic and the better results were usually from ones I drilled holes through.
