Fullas, we are towing a 265 Albemarle to Cairns next October to annoy the marlin and are going to fish our way back south. Im aftersuggestions on any good locations to stop for a look on the way home .I reckon we will have had enough of game fishing and are keen to Jig Pop Gts trout and a few red bottom things. I have fished and have a few marks around Lucinda but am keen to hear from blokes that have better knowledge of the country between Cairns and Harvey bay for example, many thanks.( I realise its a way off but we gotta lot to organise)

Innisfail, Mission Beach and or Hinchinbrook are worth the shot.
The reefs are nice and close from Innisfail and Mission Beach. And fishing is pretty good too. But like most places nowadays, you need to head a little bit wider than the first reef as it is the one that is targeted the most.

if this is what your after the burdekin ( Ayr, home hill) area has 3 distance layers of reef which give to some of the best fishing in Australia. the down side is you have to know tidal movements as ramps are not all tidal.

if it GT's on Poppers you want, then stop over at both Mission Beach, and head out to Farquason Reef (northern sideof the reef), also, stop at Lucinda and head over to the Palms, my brother was overf there for work last year, took my box of poppers, and fishing landbased, lost over $300 worth of poppers to GT's, little prick still hasn't paid me back yet.
Also head into the shallow reefs and give popping for trout a go, mad fun! But can be just as expensive as GT fishing
