You gotta hate that, the best fish of the day, ohh no, not the little ones, not the just over size trout caught on a slow day, they are not happy until they get the big one.

Serves him right cause his much bigger mate of similar species though he might taste good too.

Size or species does not effect who is at the top of the food chain.

Got his I guess

Didn't go for a swim today!!!!

stupid thing is, even though that trout would have been clearly over the legal mark, if you were to keep it and got inspected by fisheries, they can bgook you for it.

Happened to me once with a spaniard, got sharked, the front half I still had went 74cm to where is was bitten off just behind the dorsal fin, clearly would have been legal if it was still whole. i kept it figuring i could salvage what was left so it wouldn't go to waste (that and it was the only fish I caught all day), got back to the ramp and fisheries were there, they filled me in and explained that because the section i had didn't reach legal length it was deemed as an illegal catch, even though they admitted it was certain the fish would have been well over legal length. That time they let me keep the half spaniard and let me off with a warning, but said that they could book me for it, pretty ridiculous rule, but at least they showed some common sense in my case

Can't believe they even lectured you on that!

An ethical application of that law would be to give youa special merit for not wasting it. I'm serious. There needs to be ethics used by those who prosecute laws not just by those who have to keep them

Its not the fisheries officers who need the ethics, its the buggers that sit in parlamant and decide these stupid rules. The fisheries officers justr have to enforce them, and then its up to the decression of the officers if they wanna follow it up on not.
My self if i were put in that position i personally wouldnt touch it just like the fellas that checked ya and just let the peson in question go, after they were informed about the sharked fish.
