Kyle & I ventured to Peel early on Saturday morning. Even though we left before dawn the boat ramp at Wello was already chockers. A great forecast turned into a beaut day on the bay.

We dropped our plastics around Hanlon light for a few undersized snapper - not much happening there. We then drifted the reef edge between the next red beacon and the isolated hazard marker where we found snapper in abundance. A hot bite period saw many fish caught, including triple hook-ups, during the next few drifts.

Most were undersize but a couple of 35cm+ fish were amongst them as well as three lost fish to pulled hooks or bite-offs. When the tide stopped running the grinners moved in so we headed around to drift the deep channel on the eastern side. In three drifts we managed a 35cm snapper and half a dozen maori cod to 38cm. I also nailed a small tuskie and Kyle managed a small grassy. Unfortunately there were heaps of whiptails picking at our plastics.

We worked the sand flats for a couple of flathead and a nice pan sized flounder for Kyle. We tried the isolated hazard marker again on the way home and I managed a small tailor.

All in all we caught 12 different species of fish on various plastics. All were released to grow bigger! Species caught were snapper, maori cod, sand flathead, tailor, flounder, venus tuskfish, grass emperor, whiptail, grubfish, morwong and two species of grinner...

We had a great morning with fish hitting our lures continuously until lunchtime.
