took the oldman and youngfella for a fish over the rous, was a late start didn't pick the oldman up till 9.20 then headed to manly to launch, got over the rous in no time as it was flat as,threw the jigs out and droped the ting lines in the water got a heap of little reefies and the oldman gets a sole around the 33cm mark, finally met robsue on the water, was good to put a face to his name, moved around a bit and got a few squid here and there but didn't see a ting except the 1 robue's mate caught ,the oldman got this fish and wouldn't have a clue what it was pic attached, ended up with 8 squid and a sole good feed of calamari for dinner tonite

Rosco, just wondered if there is any reason you and others leave the squid as is, i cut their head off asap so they dont keep producing ink and then when i have time clean them so i just have to use the wooden spoon {kids are too old for it now} when i get home to turn them inside out, and finish the cleaning job and cut them into rings
one thing i want to try is just to score the tube and bbq it, may give it a go tomorrow

Definitely a "flying gurnard"...though the name belies its habits. Its a bottom dweller....it has spectacularly coloured 'wings' when they first come out of the water (though there are probably varieties that dont). They are also not bad on the chew if ya get one about 30cm. (not sure if there is a legal size on them up here, but I used to get quite a few in the lakes south of Sydney,,,,and there was no legal size on them....but you dont get a decent fillet til they are about 30cm).
