Google Earth shows Barwon Banks clearly marked, but I was wondering what the difference is for this southsider to get to. If I tow the boat to Mooloolaba it's practically due east, If I leave from Bribie, it seems a lot further to where Google Earth have marked it, but how far south does Barwon Banks extend? Past Caloundra?
I know it's a vague question, I have a few GPS marks off Mooloolaba to check out courtesy of someone on AF, and I am also going in tandem with another boat who has some waypoints we will visit. Just curious what people think is the best way for me to go, via Mooloolaba or via Bribie?? I am putting a plan together for several trips, not just this weekend. Any views appreciated.

I'm not sure google earth is pointing you in the right direction Scalem...north east of Mooloolaba.... I have not seen barwon banks extend anywhere near as far south as caloundra on any fishing maps I have seen.

Leave from Mooloolaba around 40km to fish shallow ground. The closer reefs e.g 12mile, inner & outers and down off caloundra are fishing alot better at present compared to the wide reefs. The current has been running hard earlier in the week.
Good mackeral, squire and coral trout have been taken over the last couple of weeks from Noosa right down off caloundra. saw a 28kg spaniard on Tuesday come off the headland at pt cart.

Used to do the trip fairly often years ago mainly from Noosa because we could stay there without loading/unloading the boats all the time, the bar did present a problem although, mostly ok in the size boats we had at the time but still, used to head out from mooloolaba at times too on slim trips (travelling light) and stay in a cara park, the bar there was for all intents back then an all weather for us, if the mouth was rough outside probably was for us as well, still noosa was the gun at the time as there where also a few other places worth trying and even the river, things might have changed in toward 20 years.
Good luck, it's where the fishing starts when heading north:)

Mooloolaba it is.
Thanks all for your replies, I have more of a gameplan now compared to this morning and several marks to check out. Skipper07 thanks, most of the marks appear to be around the area you said, which I can hit on the way back if Barwon is no good for current. See how the plastics work on the fish out there, I am expecting to fill the esky!!:o But its only a small esky.....
Good fishin!
