Off shore fishing Bundy

Hi All, I am heading up to Bundy for work and taking the boat up to do some off shore fishing, I have never fished off Bundy before. I will spend the first trip looking for new ground as i have no marks for this area

I need some advice to fishing up that way ie; North of Fraser

Fishing out wide at this time of the year ( CURRENT ) or in close shallows.

- What rigs should i be using for reef fishing, floaters or bottom bashing rigs.

- What depth should i start at.

- What baits etc.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Sam, Most pelagics can be found around the close inshore rocky shore line, but to get a decent feed of reefies you will need to head out 15 miles minimum from Burnett heads. There are several main reef areas like the 15 mile gutter, the Northern and southern gutters that are 22-24 mile out, then Lady Elliot and the Herald patches 35 miles out, or the flat country 36-45 miles out level with the top of Fraser. The average depth out to 20 miles is 28-37 mts, with the southern gutter dropping down to 60 mts in the deep hole. If you have the tiime, towing the boat up to 1770 gives you much more options, and often a better quality of fish for your effort. If you wish to ring me, 0408 848 564, when you come up, i will slip you some marks to get you out there. Trevally are available on plastics on most of the wrecks, 10-25 miles with 3 main wrecks being the Barjon, the Althea and the Karma. The best baits are livies for trout and reds, on a snell rig with number 10 ball sinker, or common bottom species like parrot, hussar, thumbies ect the double dropped works well with squid. I should be back on deck early to mid February, so if your up here after that, we might be able to catch up for a beverage and plan a tag along trip together. 6.2mt pride 200 etec. cheers Kev.

Hi Kev, Thanks for that info, i now have your number i will shout you a beverage or 3, and a tag along trip, you use a 10 ball! there must be a bit of current up that way like off moreton/ straddie at this time of the year. Again thanks for your time.

The bigger sized ball is to try and beat the trigger fish plagues....:'( If you are a day only fisher, the bottom bashing can get annouying with triggers stripping your baits, evening trips or 3am till 9am are the better options, but the weather will determine most trips up here. If the tides are over 2.7mts at Burnett Heads, then the run out wide will be a naucance, you can still fish, bigger tides, just have to head to the cod hole area 24miles north rather than north east to the gutters.;)
