Went for a fish with Jason tonight... Started out at a new spot. Jason had a blistering run but was bitten off (20lb fluro leader) the moment he applied some drag pressure. He then had a spat hook and a pulled hook.
I managed one half decent sized moses perch at this location.
We then moved to our 'old faithful' location just off the Maroochy river. This spot has been fished very hard by the tourists this summer, so we weren't really expecting much.
I landed a moses, Jason was getting a lot of pickers and that was about that..
We decided to leave so we left the lines in the water whilst we were packing up... All of a sudden Jason yells out to me, I race over to see him saving the day. My rod holder had been pulled clean over and my rod was lying on the rocks with my line running out over them. Jason grabbed the rod in the nick of time and handed it to me. I called it for a Jack right away, the fight was unmistakable. I was concerned that I wouldn't land it courtesy of being lazy and not retying my leader after it got frayed... Anyway, after a nice little fight on 8lb braid/20lb leader 2-4kg rod I was greeted by a healthy looking 48.5cm jack.
I had a two hook setup with one on a dropper loop about 3" above the bottom hook. Both were baited with 1/2 of a large prawn. The jack took the smaller hook on the dropper loop, which unfortunately lodged in it's stomach. The fish did swim away though and didn't appear the worse for it... No blood loss is always a good sign.
As I was fighting that fish Jason had pulled in my livie and had it in shallow water on the submerged rocks.. When I went to lift it up I was greeted by a hungry eel that felt my silver biddy was worthy of being its dinner. :Paranoid:
On that note, it was time to come home... Not a terrible nights fishing.
