Hi,
can someone till me what the size limit is for snapper in QLD. Everywhere I look it's different. The BCF chart says 35, the PDF from DPI indicates 25.

might be looking at the wrong DPI bud (another state that is, 25cm is NSW I think??)
35 for Qld, though I notice on older DPI charts I have, there was both snapper AND Squire, both had the same size, but given the same species, WTF?
But yes 35cm and in possession limit of 5 in QLD. In possession, means in your possesstion at any one time, including any fillets you may already have in the freezer, not a per day limit like some other states

Nah...was looking in the wrong spot. I didn't bother reading past :
All tropical snappers and sea perches 25 min 5 per species
I thought it was this...but there's an entry down further for Snapper.
Thanks for the help...cleared up.... now to go hunt some down.

Nothing under 40cm fork length for me, I can not see the point in killing two or three legal fish for the feed i can get off a single 50-65cm FL fish.

Yeh well there is the confusion........the big pink fish commonly called a "Snapper" ( Pagrus Auratus).......( as many from the north will point out).........isn't a snapper at all......... its a big pink relative of what we call a bream....( which can be argued isn't a bream at all).
Don't you just love fish names
The "tropical snappers and sea perches" are of the "Lutjanius" spicies.. the family of the "Baramundi"... don't know how correct it is calling them snappers.... but they are perches.
Ya need to be well aware of that "tropical snappers & sea perches" group because it represents a great many fish...AND there are some very similar fish that have very different size & bag limits.
the two that are a trap are... moses perch and fingermark.
any way.

If its so close to 35cm I have to try stretch the fish or lay it on the brag mat a little straighter, there is usually a comment from either me or my deckie " If its that close there must be a bigger model out there for us to catch" so back she goes.
I usually fish according to my own size limit, which in this case is a safer 38cm, a little bigger than what the law says, so there is no way I can get caught because the fish has shrunk in the esky.

Lucky Queenslanders ! Here in Western Australia our minimum size is 50cm and a bag limit of 2 only. That is included in our combined daily bag limit of 2 catergory 1 fish. And Cockburn Sound, our premium snapper fishery around Perth is now closed to snapper fishing from October 1st until February 1st. Even catch and release has been banned. By February they have all gone !
I know this has little to do with ahamay's (yamaha backwards ?) question, but I have to whinge to someone !
Cheers, Taz

My philosophy is if you think that it won't make it toss it don't even bother measuring.35cm really is tiny.Jim

Scott, is that 5 per person? So if I have 5 pers on board we can take 25 fish total of legal size?

That'd be the rules, as I understand them..... But hey, I'd be happy with one decent one!
