G'day All
I'm heading up to Burrum Heads for a bit of an explore in a couple of weeks. I'm told there are a number of boat ramps in the area, and I'm wondering if anyone can advise on the best to use. My boat is 4.5 mtrs in length.
Thanks for any advice.
Cheers
Mick

There's a couple at either end of the main street. Both in good condition.
The tide flows pretty strongly at times and can be a bit of a problem if alone.

Low tide is a problem. A gps will come in handy when getting in first time. Buxton ramp is good but its an hours drive from burrum heads. If your doin the rivers then its an option. Hop on google and download a map it shows the sandbars fairly well and will be of some assistance. This weekends tides look ok. No low, lows! Cheers,
And if your cast netting go up the rivers at least a couple of k's on the top and runout tide.
If your going outwards heres some GPS marks (to datum WGS 84)-
Burrum heads 8 mile reef- you can catch mackerel,Sweetlip,Cod,Coral Bream,Husser,Snapper,Blackall.

I reckon the best ramp to use is the two-lane ramp at the end of Ross St.
At less than high tide, there is a little patch of sand next to the ramp where you can beach the boat whilst parking the car.
The single lane ramp closer to the river mouth is very narrow and has the beach nearby, but is less than friendly at low tide.
Burrum Heads could really use a ramp with a pontoon for those of us who fish solo, or have a missus that can't drive the manual fourby or the boat.
Just about straight across the river from the Ross St. ramp is Black Bank.
A good assortment of fish can be caught there.
Pro netters can often be seen working the sandbanks in the area.

Thanks for the info, especially the info on where to fish. Very helpful when fishing new areas.
Our plans are to fish Lenthalls on Fri 5/2, and then the Burrum river on the Sat and Sunday before heading back to the Sunny Coast.
It will be great to get away for a few days, and fish some new territory. Although only a few hours up the road from me it's always been a case of work getting in the way. Till now that is.
