Gday All,
With the weather looking like it was going to come good on Sunday, we decided to head to Rainbow for the weekend. Got up there Friday afternoon and took the kids out tubing first thing Saturday. Dumped the wife and kids back at the house, had some lunch then headed out over the bar to do a couple hours of trolling. I just got through the bar and saw birds working everywhere. Before I put the lures out I thought I'd go and annoy the birds for a while. After throwing slug after slug for nil return I opted for the easier approach and threw the lures overboard and started trolling. I trolled for a couple of hours before pulling the pin with still no fish in the box.
Sunday morning I hit the boat ramp at 4.30 and headed on out. I was greeted with beautiful conditions once over the bar which made for a good run out. Pulled up at the first spot and instantly started pulling hussar over the side. With only a few left to fill the bag limit I opted for another spot.
On the way to the next spot I ran over a piece of ground which looked like it was holding fish so I doubled back around and started pulling up small reds to about 40-45 cm. Some parrot and MORE hussar came aboard and then a 5.5kg red which I was more than pleased with. Dropped a couple of good fish, one of which is still carrying around my hook and a couple of coronation trout added to the mix and then the parrot and hussar bag was full. Pulled up from that spot and tried another couple but not much was happening. Had a look at another mark which I hadn't tried before and it looked pretty good.
Wasn't long before there was a fight on between me and a very good sized red. I was stoked, it was going to be my pb red until it decided half way up it didn't want to be and jumped off the hook and headed for home. Had another few drifts but he was no longer interested.
By that time it time to head for the hills. Perfect conditions gave me a smooth ride home sitting on 30 kn all the way. Total tally, 10 hussar, 6 parrot, 1 gold spot wrasse, 2 coronation trout and 1 red.
Cheers
