smoking at hervey bay!

Hey All

So after the charter boat got cancelled we decided to have a less serious holiday in Hervey bay jst fishing the pier.
the amazing part is it was the most fun in ages without catching a decent fish, stayed at a backpackers hostel spent the mornings fishing and the days and evenings relaxing by the pool having a quiet drink!::) ::)

the plan was tuna n macs with balloons and fishing straight down with the big gear for gt's kings etc
the suface baits wernt getting any attention so plan b was in order so live squid 1m off the bottom 24kg outfit straight down as i was setting the drag first drop while putting the rod down got smashed and somked into the pilons!!
Feeling under equipped the saragosa got the nod with 80lb braid!!
watching the rod intensly the livie was geting real nervous and i noticed a bit of slakening in the line so i picked it up and this thing took off like no tommorow i had 12-15kg of pressure straight up and i was getting smoked like ive never seen:o :o so fast so powerful so fun!:o :o it happened 2 more times on the trip so for not landing anything bigger than a small squid it was one of the best trips ever!! ::)

Had the same type of fun at lucinda jetty recently, even managed to break 1 older rod on a screamer.

There are some massive cod that live at that jetty.

the plan was gt's they wer so fast once they felt the weight!
the locals though they wer huge gt's 2!

massive groper under the end of that jetty. ppl who have been lucky enough to see them will tell you that they are absolutely amazing. on a perfect day when the wind is still and the water is clear i have seen the trevally sitting under the end of the jetty. have seen some monsters! been smoked a cpl of times myself!
