Left Spinnaker about 3:45am and headed to the Cape to target some snapper and sweetlip. Was very quiet on the shallows and could only tempt rubbish fish on the soft plastic that I was using. Decided to try the standard floating pillie without any lead and scored a decent snapper followed up by a spangled emperor. A few undersized squire also came aboard until the bite stopped completely. We then put out the the skirted lures at about 8:30am for a planned troll until lunch time. This was uneventful for an hour or so until we boated two dollies in quick succession. Further trolling eventually saw me hooked up to a marlin which I was rather happy about as it is my first. It took some time to land on 8kg line on a Shimano TLD 15. For those interested it was taken on a 'Blacks Snacks' Lure in blue and purple colours. Mitchell Culcutt made the lures up for me at the end of last summer season and they work a treat! We carefully pulled the fish from the water for a quick photo and then pulled it through the water to revive it. We watched it swim off which capped off a great day.

Hi Martin
Great fish, were those parasites on its sholder or growth covered tags?
Talk soon

They were parasites I believe. We pulled some off and they started to bleed so decided to leave them alone. Mitch, I have been trying to send you an email through your website, but it keeps bouncing back. I am keen for some more lures!!
