Hi DNEJ,
I use a Wilson Black Magic 12' 2 piece for all my Dart,Whiting.Bream fishing in the surf , with a 625 B with 6 and 9 lb Trielene line. Fantastic outfit, however the maximum sinker I use is a 4 ball, and this will give me 80-100 m cast everytime if needed. With this set up the rod , reel is perfectly balanced.Going to a 5 ball just doesn't feel right with less casting distance.
When I read your post I went and found a Champion Trophy rod ( I picked up one some time ago) and checked it out.For low tide gutters and some close high tide ones you will be okay, you will get a lot of tip action which is great but my question would be over casting distance.
Hope this helps.
