Is the WWF:
Jealous
Gained a social conscience
Stood to become seen as near irrelevant on this issue.
Has other fish to fry to a crisp.
May lead to a decrease in future decrease income.
It's a confusing stance from this environmental Zealot organisation.
Can anyone read better between the lines???
cheers fnq

They also like eating fish with their tofu.
Pick a side champy... When a green group trys to close something down it's tanty time and then when they are trying to help keep a sustianable fishery from being closed down it's tanty time again..... hello mcfly :hammer:

I smell a big rat here. See it coming from a mile away.
Call me cynical, but how likely does this scenario sound:
PEW wants total closures
Local WWF tries to look reasonable by suggesting some form of co-habitation with fishos is possible
Us fishos say that any closures are unjustified and should only be done if a proper risk assessment justifies them as vital to protect habitat (ie a sensible position)The WWF have thereby set themselves up to claim the high ground by seeming to be more "reasonable" when they argue for "only" say 30-50% green zones.
They then paint we fishermen as the ones to be adopting an extreme and unflexible position as we argue for no green zones because they are not necessary or justified to deal with any realistic threat to the environment.
Deal then done WWF/with Govt, whose spin then is that they didn't listen to PEW and adopted more reasonable 30- 50% closures.
Fishermen bend over and get ready to grimace....:'(
No Xmas cheers...... sorry

Sh!t mate. Thats what I have been sayin for ever. ASK FOR EVERYTHING and settle for anything. It always starts with the radicals asking for EVERYTHING to be closed, they get something to shut them up then they just chip away chip away from there.
This is bloody scary and the rat is a big one.
Like me mate Winston said "We will fight them on the beaches" etc etc

The WWF are playing ducks and drakes here. They are walking over local environment groups up north in their "national campaign" for marine park closures around Australia and are not giving a hoot about the regional issues OR any regional work done in co-management that already exist. They are now changing tact to seem more fisho friendly to get more public approval (they got stung with Garrett in the Coral Sea Conservation Zoning).
All of their information speaks of commercial fisheries issues, not anything aligned with recreational is on their hit list; just shut the public out. So makes you wonder where their thinking really is.
