FNQ, better make it the Gold Green Mack colour, I have been using it for the last 12months and its like lollies to a mack.

Although I normally troll them at about 4knots and have a really good hookup rate.

Biggest caught was a 17kg by the missus (Mackinator).

Watch out the Xraps can become addictive

Halco crazy deep in gold and black... Only thing is you'll never get them to swim that fast.. Come to think of it you have to go through a few of them to get one that will swim properly at all, but once you do get one you'll want to hang onto it 'cause they're the ducks gonads.

Cheers

Vindicator,
You can't go past a Halco Laser Pro 190. Gold/Black or King Brown both great colours. Also you could try some bibless models at that speed and the best of the bibless range would have to be the 5 or 7 inch Mackbait. I have trolled the 7 inch in good conditions up to 20 knots. I've caught spanish in the middle of the day using this method. Just plain pink works well but the Qantas red head/ white body model is a gun. Also, try replacing the trebles on these with single hooks from Decoy.

Skipalong posted while I was still typing. I totally agree with his thoughts.

There are some new giant blade lures that would be perfect. Saw some in BCF Hervey Bay and they looked like they would take any speed. 5" 6" and 7" with big singles on swivels to the lure.

If you want to troll that fast then bibless or blades work Ok but I prefer minnows at 4-8 knts. Almost any of the large minnows work. Dont forget the golden oldies like Rapala CD 18s etc. They still catch a lot of big Macs

G'Day Horse,
I much prefer hard body minnows without metal bibs as once they get bent out of shape it is hard to get the lure to swim properly again. Have you founfd this?

John.

Quantus or gold laser pro are my favorites 12 knts is about max for these,if you troll them on a stroker rod they stay in the water a bit better.

Hoodunnit,
You can also get them to run well by running a rubber band around the reel handle and then looping it around the line once you have the lure in the position you want.
You can also run a short length of mono from the transom with rigger release clips or game snaps with rubber bands.

Hi
The mate Steve (Apollo) loves his laser pro 190, Rusty hooks and all.;D After 1770 I'm a bit partial to it as well. its caught quite a lot of macks as well as a small black marlin.

I have had most success so far with lively lures blue pillies and halco laser pro.
we put out lures off the charter boat between stops and it runs at about 12 -15 knots, so there is no choice about going slower, however we do get spanish on lures at this speed regularly.
The last time i used a rapala cd 18, i reeled in the bib and a nice cobia swam away with the rest of the lure.

Reggy,
Charter boat, What Charter boat? What charter boat do run and where? You have me interested?
I'm a fan of the junior and senior pillies also. The shallow seniors can be run at greater speeds than their deep diving brothers. The junior pilles have accounted for some good fish aswell. They are a great lure.
I have also spent alot of time trolling Arafura Barra lures from the Lively stables aswell. The nilsy pink colour is my favourite and has accounted for quite a few mackerel as well as snapper.
All lures from the Lively Lures factory are hand tested in the test tank and tuned to swim straight from the packet. The lures are injection moulded and are solid as opposed to alot of chinese rubbish that are two part plastic. Once punctured by a toothy critter, these two part plastic lures will take on water and will not run properly. Halco may be an Australian company but all lures are made in China as are RMG's and Classics.
I like to support hard working Australian lure maunfacturers. They are struggling to compete with these cheaper imports.

At the end of the day, Australian made lures, such as Lively Lures are a better product anyway.
