Just wondering who's had success with SP 'crabs'?
And how did you use them?

Last three trips out, we've come home with some snapper, and every snapper has had an absolute belly full of small crabs.... So, keen to 'match the hatch'.

Cheers!

here's an old thread...

basically, rig your crab sideways on the hook, drift and dead stick them, casting and retrieving will make them spin.

there are other crab placcys around that are larger than the gulp ones, I've caught some nice cod with these by using a running bean sinker right down to a worm-style hook, again rigged sideways and drifting and deadsticking.

I haven't tried it yet but I want to give a paternoster style rig a go too.

My local BCF has these on sale at the moment.. I'm somewhat considering giving them a shot.

I tired again, but with no luck (rigged as above).
Then again, I didn't catch anything on any plastic yesterday.

Still, I plan to persevere, as every snapper we've caught recently had a belly full of crabs....

Cheers

I have tried and tried with those Berkley gulp crabs and have not done well, In my opinion snapper will eat just about anything you throw at them, and i have caught them on all sorts of weird and wonderful plastics, but for some reason i could not get them to bite on the crabs no matter how good they look to me :-/.

One thing I did notice, that all the crabs in all the snapper were REALLY small. I'll persevere, dead sticking the 'crabs' and work 'normal' plastics with another rod.

Cheers!

I rate the crab shaped sp's just above the pipi shaped ones.

Webby played with them on the Tuskies and scored a few. I tried them a few times for very poor results on the Snapper grounds.

That's what I want to get on a plastic crab...

I have had no luck with the crabs even when the squire I catch have been eating them. I tried the Berkley green prawn and caught 20 in just over an hour.

Brought a heap of packets for $1 each a while ago, have caught the odd squire on them but don't appear to be anywhere near as effective as other SP's...as for those pipi's, I guess that why they are always on special

I've used them off the rocks and caught 2 blue groper. While Only around the 3-4kg mark, both hit the plastic crabs over the real things. I had them rigged on a worm style hook, with a small bean sinker running straight to it
