Is there any experienced rock fisherman who high speed spin. Just interested in what type and capacity of rod commonly used. Was looking at an 8' 15-24kg rod to throw slugs/poppers with 30/50pd braid. Is this rod overkill? and would a 10-15kg rod be more ideally suited.
Thanks

I have used my Saltiga 80tn which is an 8ft'er with good success...rated to PE 6.
I ran 30lb braid on this.
I now used a 9'6 rod rated to PE 5 ...... The 9'6 helps with casting distance and its a very nice rod to use......I also use 30lb braid on this.
Something like a Daiwa Emblem Pro 9'6 is a very nice rod for the job....Retail should be somewhere around $400.
Naturally there are cheaper alternatives also.

As pete has said the saltiga used a fair bit on the rocks know a couple ppl who have it . I have 3 rods
1 is the emblem pro 9 6 great for 40-85 gram lures its not a heavy rod and you can have fun catch tailor etc also can handle longtails in the 6-10 kg but wouldnt like to be hook to a 20 kg mackeral with it .
the other two rods are rated pe4-6 and pe 6 respectively these are japanese tuna casting rods which are a lighter rod compared to the japanses gt rods main thing is with the high end gt rods they not desgined to cast lighter 85 grm raidesr often they are for big 150-20 gram poppers the tuna rods tend to cast up to 120 gram and 85 is perfect for them one is a zenaq foketto blue fin parabolic 86 max cast weight 120 the other is a ripple fisher however the ripple fisher 8 6 with 85 grams its slightly pushing the cast weight which is max of 90 but this is used by me for hardbodies .
both of these are top end rods and not cheap the saltiga is probalby the best of the shelf rod thats not going to totally blow your budget. If you can afford a zenaq though damn worth it.

I recently went through this myself and came down to the emblem pro and the saltiga 80tn. Went the 80tn as one came up cheap and i already had an 11' rod. Dont think you would be disapointed with either.

Scotty, you are a "Tacklewhore"!
I reckon that you would almost sell yourself for a "class" piece of gear!
