I'm experimenting with a few lure setups and alterations and are trying to find some open double hooks in sizes from #1 to #4.

Everywhere I've looked only stock the small doubles, biggest I've found are #8's.

I've checked out the websites and some catoulouges from Gamakatsu, Van Fook, Owner, Decoy etc.

The closest I've come to finding these sizes is Mustad (on their website) but I don't want to order them without seeing them first.

Can anyone help shed some light and help with some info on where to find these hooks.

Thanks, Jeff.

I went through a period of being a devoted doubles angler, but I have since changed back to using a split ring and extra short extra strong trebles on my lures. I found that whilst doubles do give a better hookup, they can use the lure's bulk and or weight to do some remarkable remodelling of the hook. Add to that, after a period of time on the lure (generally about a year or so) the doubles would also get brittle and snap right in the middle of the eye, I can only put this down to work hardening of the metal from stretching it over the eyelet of the lure or some form of electrolysis without any evident rusting occuring. Brands did not seem to make a whole lot of difference either as i used mustads, VMC, Gamas and Owners over a period of about 8 years. I had too many doubles fail in the end and went away from them. Had about 1000 lures married with doubles at the peak, probably only got half a dozen now still married.

I bought mostly online and mostly from overseas vendors as they are incredibly hard to source locally, esp anything outside of mustads.
