Hi im in the process of getting my rods and reels ready for the school holidays in a few weeks here in victoria. I will be fishing for some king george whiting in estuarys and Port Phillip Bay. They only have very small bites so would you use braid or mono? Also what about circle hooks or recurve hooks would they be ok, so whiting hook themselves or would you use a long shank hook?
Thanks

Personally I prefer a light mono line and long shank hooks with pippis or sandworms.

I like to use braid. 1 pound fireline is great. It breaks well above that and will let you detect those little whiting nibbles.
Mono or flouro leader/trace and a nice light rod with a slow action works well.
I've never tried circles for whiting, I just always use a long shank when bait fishing for them. Let us know how you go if you do try it.

I have the best luck with small long shank hooks. I fish up to 8lb line for whiting and no worries feeling the bites :) Small, narrow baits are good like worms or anything that just covers the hooks. Prawns they will bite too but far less hookups because they seem to nibble and pull the bait off the hook rather than try and swallow the whole thing (like a flattie does).
