I am currently looking into getting a new combo around Christmas time this year. For the moment I have decided on a daiwa heartland 4000 spin reel and I'm looking for an appropriate rod to match. Overall I'm guessing on spending around $700-800 on the total combo. It's going to be used mostly in the bay, but i'd also like to be able to use it around headlands up at agnes. I'm thinking around 7' or 7'6. Going to be running 15lb-30lb braid on it mostly. (hopefully I can pick up a third spool from somewhere)

I have looked into the daiwa rods but don't like the way that they taper and are quite stiff, but also don't want a rod that's too soft. (I find some loomis rods to be a bit sloppy for my taste) I was wondering if anyone could recommend any brands and/or models that may be more suited to what I am after?

Thanks for the help fellas,
Serge

Take a look at the Egrell BeaR S10, I think it might be right up your alley.

Another good option is the Loomis SJR 844S (IMX). Nothing sloppy about this rod & it will easily handle 20 to 30lb braid.
