what are the desired qualities of a dedicated jigging rod?
and what sort of reel is considered to be normal for this type of fishing?

Mick, i fish very similar to that when i jig and i have a daiwa saltist 30T-H matched to a gary howard G force 7 foot 15-24kg, this way i can lift the bigger jigs as well, it is the form of fishing that is very hard on your gear, buy the best reel you can afford. cheers Lee
