Hi,
Is there such a thing a general all rounder rod/reel? I always fancied just having one in the car to grab should the moment arise should it be estuarty, boat, shore or freshwater etc...I know right tool for the right job and all that but better than no tool no job! Must be a two piece at least!
If so..recommendations on products most welcome....

GP rod and a small alvey loaded with 15lb should do the trick

if you are going to choose something that is going to live in the car (subject to things getting packed on it, shoved around inadvertantly, knocked about, subjected to high temps), I would suggest something like a two piece ugly stik in the 7' - 7'6" range......they will take a hammering and still be usable....team it with a medium sized and range threadline reel with a decent mono line in the 12lb range and you will have a good inexpensive outfit. Just make sure you make up a little cloth bag to cover the reel with as that will keep the UV rays off the line (which cause it to break down over time). Another tip is to NOT leave the outfit rigged up....as the exposure to the sun will weaken the line to the extent you will probably have to re-rig after your first cast (if it has been a while since last used). Take it from a sales rep whose territory was from brissy to cooktown...and always had a couple of outfits in the car 'just in case'.;)

You could always do what I do... I keep the following in the car regularly
6'8" baitcaster outfit w/8lb braid
7' spin outfit with 1500 size reel and 6lb braid
7' spin outfit with 2500 size reel and 6lb braid
7' spin outfit with 4000 size reel and 10lb braid
Why stick to one? :P
