:) *Video footage on You Tube- Highlights of subjects that I have been filming in the last two months.
Spanish mackerel, barra, mangrove jack, mudcrabs, GT's, crayfish, estuary cod. There is underwater video footage of crabs walking into crab pots, as well as underwater footage of estuary cod eating troll baits...and lots more.
Take a look if you are interested. It goes for about 6 mins, no words, just a bit of music.
Cheers,
Johnny Mitchell

The footage was taken in mixed locations on the Capricornia Coast. The series of islands is incredible, some film is taken as far north as the Percy's region, whilst my home town of Gladstone is home base for a lot of the closer stuff. There are hundreds of kms of coastline from Bustard Head to Mackay that oozes fish life.
Yes, there is a lifetime of memories attached, it really opens your eyes when you jump in and film or look at things from angles not normally explored. I can't get enough of it, but I must also return to my work at some stage and leave the winter water in peace. Dam it! :)

great vid , looks like wicked fun in the making.
What type of cameras are you using to film with and have you made your own pole cams?
keep up the good work

A_DIFF_PERSPECTIVE
29-07-2009, 10:20 AM
I haven't used a pole cam yet, but I have two cameras that can be attached to a pole. Two camera lenses on 50 metres of cable that plug direct to any of my cameras, for multi-purpose use. I use a simple Canon HV20 and a HV30 in a Breed-1 underwater Housing (made in japan). I use a Sony HVR- Z1P for above water use. You end up with a dinghy full of equipment, but if it's what you have to do, I'm prepared to do it. I enjoy the challenge.
I look forward to showing more footage in the future. I have lots of work to do to finish a list of DVDs.
Cheers,
Johnny

Nice work Good to see that cod go back they are essential for a healthy reef system. I wouldn,t do the twist around the hand if a shark takes the fish then your in the water

But a good effort

I love watching stuff like that. You can learn so much from watching fish in their natural habitat.
Even the little bit where the cod grabs that live bait is an eye opener. They really do study the offering don't they ? Presentation sure is important.
I'd kill for some decent bass footage like that.
Thanks JM.

great work Johnny I really enjoyed that! If you dont mind me asking Where was that location with the steep cliffs you were trolling? Also I noticed you were trolling the watsons bonito, do you find spannies like taking them? I use Bonito as Livies alot in NSW but its all new too me up here. I find alot of watson getting around in my area and often thought about rigging one up.
Once again great work!

Rob,
Spanish love Watson's Bonito. Whack one on alive the next time you are out near spanish mac grounds. If spanish are close by, the bait shouldn't even last a minute. Two hooks is plenty. Lets just call the steep cliffs, "Spot X".
Cheers,
Johnny

Johnny - I think I saw you out filming just out of Gladstone northern entrance last week. I was the girlie in the blue hornet on my own, getting my arse whipped by some mackeral whilst trying not to get seasick, bleed fish, catch fish, and keep my very unseaworthy boat from getting a green wave over the arse end.....lol.....

Well if you are taking requests, I would love to see ANY fish from underwater hitting poppers.

Was I the only one wondering where the Crocs might be??? Most of the mangrove stuff seemed to be filmed from someone IN the water!!

Just got the spanish/mudcrab dvd combo early this week and they are great.

Highlight for me was the slow mo underwater footage of the spaniard nailing the trolled bait right in front of the camera!

Loved the 7 kilo spanish being used as a troll bait & then the big boy that nailed it! 25 kilos +++!

The muddy vid was tops too! I like the positioning of the pots in the creek section and some info on the life cycle that may stop people wasting green/soft crabs.

Looks like you had some fun filming as well!

I reckon the popper underwater footage would be awesome to see as per greenie.77's requests.

Yes, there is some cracking country along the C.Q. coast, that's for sure. Ask your local tackle store if they stock the DVD, or if they can order them in for you, or alternatively, they are for sale through my website. They have become popular.
