Shimano Callisto baitcaster problem?

G'day all,

My young fella went to use his rod the other day, he's got a Shimano Callisto reel on it, anyway he casted out but the reel wouldn't retrieve the line, it felt as if the drag was completely wound off, regardless of wether i wound the drag back up or not, it's been a good little real otherwise, he's even landed a 70cm barra on it. Also i always store our rods with the drag wound off completely. Any suggestions what i should be looking for when i go to fix it? Has anyone else had this same problem?

If its been pulled apart lately for servicing etc, just check that it's gone back together properly. Pull the side plate off and makes sure the spindle from the spool is fitted in with all the gears properly. I have a couple of shimano reels that will do this occasionally when I pull them apart, it all feels like it all goes in properly, but between me putting the side plate back on and doing up the screws something comes loose.

Grant,another thing to check if you are running braid is that it isnt turning around on the spool.It helps to have a layer of mono under the braid as it grips the spool better than the braid.Cheers Brad.
