I bought two light small reels from the USA very cheap for whiting and bream and I hope you blokes could give me some advise on which rods to match these reels to as I have not had outfits that light previously. My other rods are Shimano and uglysticks. So for these cheap reels I am thinking more budget priced rods than top shelf. Thanks for any advise.
1.. Abu Garcia Cardinal 302,,6 to 10 lbs.
2. Abu Garcis Blackmax
Cheers, I should have added the BlackMax is a Baitcaster to 12lbs.;D

Mate...got to that B@F place and get some Shimano SFS series flick sticks...probably 40bux each, made of graphite and 7' long in 2 piece... If you cant find em, look for the Shimano Catana series, about 50bux each in th same length.
Great entry level gear...

I totally agree. Great rods for the price! They load up well. We use them for for light baiting and plastic work. Have caught king salmon up to a meter with them. Good choice!

Cheers S.A. Thanks also, Much appreciated. Should I stick with braid on these small reels or use a good mono line.

You using bait or lures? If your using lures then go braid. You'll get better casting distance and much more sensitive.

Thanks Alex, I guess I will do both as I am interested in trying out SP and HBs as well as bait. Most of my fishing has been done using heavy handlines although I have 4 heavier rods for outside and heavier estuary use. Thanks for the advise.

Go the Catanas mate.
I just broke one being stupid.
I have caught jacks, big flatties and whiting on a 7ft two piece Catana.
Great stuff.

Too bad about the brakage, lucky it was not a big bucks rod>:(. I must admit I am rough on gear at times;) and will need to refine my technique before a big spend up on a stick. Thanks L.N.B. Have a great weekend all.

I have been using it in the Kayak as I don't like to take the Egrell out in the yak.
I got snagged and gave it a few heavy flicks which normally shifts things in the area I was in.
But I think with the high angle from being in the yak and I was using a heavier braid than usual.
It just snapped above the join. It was the only rod I had with me and I had only been out for about 20mins.
So I snapped a bit more off and jammed the bits together, crushed one of the guides down and kept fishing.
There was not a great amount of feel left, but it still landed a fish!
I used a back up Backbone Elite yesterday and hated it, had less feel than the busted Catana!
Off to get a new Catana...
