My father pass away in may and in his day he was a keen fisho and a member of several clubs, he was also a bookbinder for the govt printing office and apart from several timber alvey reels he gave me in his possesion was this book from the harbours and marine dept of fish in SE QLD, it was printed in 1959 and i found it funny what they had to say about snapper in the bay, it describes snapper as " once prolific in moreton bay it is now almost entirely confined to reefs in offshore waters", so wow what was the fishing like when they were prolific in the bay if they thought that in 1959?, it also said they grew to a max size of 4ft 3inches and 43lbs, im thinking of putting it on ebay..

I love the title of the book, "Know your Fishes" especially with its official looking medical journal style binding.

I reckon you should hang onto it - my father in law passed onto me a book of his called "The Complete Book of Australian Fishing", printed 1977 - i think there is still a lot of good info in these ol' books on how to fish and where to find certain species etc. If you don't want to hang onto it - you could consider donating it to a local musuem as well - i think you'd get better satisfaction knowing it went to a worthwhile place where hundreds of people can view it also. Anyway, up to you - sorry to hear of your family loss - all the very best in what you choose. Regards, Darren
