Looking at doing my first trip out of Noosa this weekend and I was wondering if I could get some local knowledge on the bar. Is there a channel and can you cross at low tide in calm conditions. I have a 4.5 metre tinny. Any information greatly appreciated. I tried Noosa coast guard today but didn't get much sense out of the lady I was talking to.

Cheers,
Juggie

Unless conditions deteriorate you shouldn't have dramas on any tide. Swell died altogether last night and today, and by this afternoon was a sheet of glass. Is a good channel across the bar.

Attached is a link that should be helpful. Go into archives below the picture and that should point you in the right direction. Maybe giving the local charter operator might also help. Tight Lines. I am visiting Noosa on sunday (not fishing though) so hope to see you at the ramp with a full esky. Link-http://www.fishingnoosa.com.au/noosabar.htm

I came in over the bar at low tide last night. There was plenty of water on the bar itself but up further at the hairpin, we went aground several times.

juggie, how did you go? I only have a 4.5m tinny also, and am keen on getting out. How far out did you go?

I'm toying with the idea of heading out in about 3 weeks time so thanks for the info everyone. I haven't been out from Noosa before...I've seen the map on www.fishingnoosa.com.au (http://www.fishingnoosa.com.au) but roughly how far off the coast are Sunshine, Jew Shoal, Halls and Little Halls? Any within 2nm of the coastline?

You gotta be kidding me Pete!!!:o

You must have been way off course, if you stay in the CORRECT channels, there's no way you'll hit bottom once you're through the bar.

If it took you 1 hour to get to the ramp from the bar, you made some big miscalculations.

I must say though, it is fun to watch all the tourists belting around at high speed, then suddenly hit sand.........hard.

You then hear them cursing Noosa River, haha, I love it, hope they don't come back!!;D
