hope this doesnt come out wrong, but as a newbie heres go.why cant you just use soft plastics on normal rig set ups, instead of setting up on a jig head.to me you could have the best of both worlds, bait and your soft plastics to try.as usual look foreword to the answer to this.also is paradise point coomera ok for land based fishing?

people do on paternosters etc I wouldnt worry about it, its like having to buy a bbq grill cleaner rather than using a bit of beer...

whatever suits you best I reckon, all down to psychology, if it works for you great, for some no doubt they will be absolutely convinced you will never catch a fish without a jighead and some will colour them as well, add glitter, etc...and no doubt it works for them... whatever works for you I reckon go for it..

personally I must take a complete arsenal of hooks i will never need or use when i go out fishing?

Hi John,

We have used plastics on normal hooks the tide can play havoc on them. but does the job if need be. Fishing in the Paradise Point area is great landbased, try around Jabiru Island. There is a safe swimming enclosure too for when the kids get bored.

Happy fishing, Steve

Yep, been on a charter where we used a paternoster rig with bait on one hook and a SP on the other.
While I use jigheads 99% of the time, I do often run two rods with SPs, one that I'm working, and one that's just 'dead baiting'. Can't see how it would make too much difference using a SP on a normal rig. If the SP was going to spin in the water current, so would the bait..... at a guess.

Whatever combination you come up with, test it by swimming your bait or lure in the water. Jigheads help replicate the behaviour of a bait fish or crustacian, and the weight needed with the jighead is made to look like part of the disguise. A natural presentation is what you are after with ANY combination you come up with.

There is nothing to stop you using jigheads with bait, as I did 2 weekends ago on bream, using prawns and it works.;) Using plastics on normal hooks means you need to weight your hook by other means, either above a swivel ( which I think does not work, but thats my opinion) or on top of the hook which interferes with the plastic or on a dropper rig such as paternoster - hopeless if shore based.

right behind Paradise Pt boat ramp, theres a park with good fishing. nice dropoff to 15-17 ft as you face the river. Fish it at the turn of the tides to avoid too much current. try evening or early morning.

And good luck! ;D
if you're going to invest in some SPs, might as well grab a packet or two of jig heads and do it properly.
If not, it's still worth a shot using a SP as 'bait' on a normal rig. It's better than a bare hook. The guys flogging the 'Slam' SPs claim that you can cut them into chunks and use them as bait.... that said, I've never caught much on Slams....
