Hi All

Looking for some advice if you're 'in the know'.

Recently comming home I hit a hefty stick floating in my local haunt. It bent one of the prop blades a little bit. Loving my Honda BF75 HP to death I decided to take off the prop (as I have done in the past when dinging it) and take it down to SOLAS propella's to get fixed (I figure $70 in repairs is small change to an engine worth $13k).

After removing the pin, the washer and the nut, I tried to remove the prop. It wouldn't budge. So I tried again. Still no sucess. So I got a rubber mallet and gently tapped it off.

Well the prop came off, but so too did the "thrust washer" (I believe that's what it is called). Being a little worried, as every other time I have pulled the prop off my motor/s this has never happened) I pulled the prop off my 9.8 Tohatsu Aux motor. It's thrust washer was stuck there good and firm.

Should I be worried about this 'thrust washer' comming off? (eg with seals breaking etc - don't want expensive water damage in the gearbox etc).

As you can see I am no mechanic; so I would appreciate any advice. I also poked around the rubber that sits in behind the Thrust Washer (seals I gather) with some long nose pliers.

Thanks

Ian

Nothing to worry about it's only a part of the engine when the prop is fitted, better still, now when you refit everything you can get grease onto all mating surfaces.

you should take it off just as you did to check for fishing line wrapped around against the rubber seal...as when it cuts through the seal (as it does) it lets water into the gearbox... nasty...so you should do just what you did. Including on your Tohatsu.
