Hi all - I experienced some modrate success last year chasing these guys off beechmere. It was more good luck than measure taking home nothing more than a feed on a couple of occasions. I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me a bit more as I plan to get in to these guys this year.

I'm interested in thoughts and oppinions on things like moon & tide phase, best times to chase them, best months to chase them (I know, I know- winter is a good time), whether its best to drift or anchor & burley and anything else about their habits or techniques used to catch them.

People talk a lot about the cockle banks but I assume that there are numerous places right throughout the bay that the whiting can be found. I'm keen to explore and find other areas so I am also wondering what to look for when finding new ground? What sorts of area/bottom and what depth range?

Any help would be appreciated - thanks.,
Benno

We fished Southern Pelican banks on Saturday for 39 whiting. Drifting in 1.8-3.0mtrs of water, using worms, squid. All in the middle of the day (11.00 to 3.00). We found a long drift over an area into 3.0+ deep water then motor back to around 1.6mtr and drift back to deep water again. Absolute great fun for the little ones (Dad had fun as well)
Main thing, like all fishing, HAVE FUN!
