outboard probs

i've got 06 model 50hp yamaha and its been running excellent untill i put fuel in it,now it starts fine you put it in gear still fine then you take of and it boggs and stalls,does it about 2-3times then clears and runs fine,replaced spark plugs and put some premium fuel in it and flushed out the fuel bowls aswell.its not due for a service till august.

any ideas anyone?

Flush the fuel bowls again, you probably still got water in the fuel tank.
Just moments after you flushed the carbs and started the motor, the fuel bulbs would have picked up more water, unless of course you have a fuel /water seperator filter! have you one of them installed?

sounds like it just needs to warm up a bit more, maybe a thermostat problem, 4 bangers still need to be warm, you say it doe's it 2 or 3 times then go's good, if the thermostat is not reclosing upon you shutting down then it will take extra longer to warm up hence the bogging effect 2 or 3 times then coming right! have a look anyway!
If it dosnt have a thermo then just disregard all I have written except warming the motor a bit more!

if it was OK before, then I reckon best check is to get a complete remote tank and hose, with fresh fuel, clean the filters (if any) and take it from there, if it is OK, then you need to clean your tank out (maybe)

Ive just had similar problems.

The first thing is to see if the problem is no fuel or no spark. Im with Noel, carry a spare fuel tank and hose, so next time it happens, change tanks and see if it does it again.

You should also carry a spare spark plug. next time it happens, pull a lead off a plug and put it on the spare plug. Hold the plug near an earth (hold it with a piece of wood so you dont get zapped) and see if theres spark jumping to the earth when you turn the ignition.

What I thought was a fuel problem, turned out to be a lack of spark from the ignition unit.

Your issue sounds similar, but it could be a million things.

i cleaned the tank,got new fuel,put new plugs in and left it to idle for ten minutes so i might book it in for a check up.

just took it out for a quick run,it only done it once,so i will take it for a run 2morro and see how it goes.the outboard is 2 stroke.
