Hit the bay last Wednesday night in search of a Snapper. Only got 1 good Squire to keep, but also got 12 small Barracuda for bait, as well as getting bitten off by them at least 10 times. There was bait everywhere; in fact, I had a hard time actually getting my bait down past them. The water was like coffee to about 3km past St. Helena, then it was pretty much clean thereafter. Still a bit of floating debris around though. With the ammount of bait around, things are looking good once this weather sorts itself out. Took my four-and-a-half year old boy for his first trip to Peel on the Thursday night. Only one good tailor (bait), but he had a ball, which is the most important thing.
Cheers,
NICK.

Definitely not Pike. I originally thought they were when I used to get them there ages ago, but they do not have a yellow tail, the tail is a slightly different shape and the body colouring is different. The Ern Grant Bible identifies them as Pickhandle Barracuda. They do have a fair set of choppers and they are pretty good when used as strip baits.
Cheers,
NICK.
