G'day folks! Got over the shock of losing my almost new popper rod..... but, a question.

What are your most successful poppers for tailor or other, off the rocks, species?

Mine would have to be the Halco Roosta.

Regards, Rob, Ballina.

Yeah...Halco Roosta's are great poppers.

Cotton Cordell pencil poppers are another which are great.
When the longatils are around chasing gar........The cotton cordell is hard to beat.

are they still making those buggers????(cotton cordell) They were brilliant when I was using them off the stones 30 years ago, then out of the boats chasing almost anything on the surface. Very effective tried and proven surface popper, anything that will take a garfish/frigate/flying fish will take a CC pencil popper. And they cast like a bullet.

Nice poppers the CCs. I just have to get something on one though. Have a couple that live in my tackle bag but i am never on the rocks when the gars are showering. Holidays next year should fix that though, i will be living on the water waiting. I would kill for some better rocks down here in Ballina. The other option is they could open up Byron Bay and Broken Head again, that would be great. Also a big fan of the Halco Roosta as you know Rob. They will come into there own when this dirty water clears and the coast is back to normal and full of Tailor again. Not a chopper or green back to be seen atm and all the mac tuna and bonniesare gone.

Hey Scott!

I thought all your favourites floated off when your lure box fell in off the peg the other week!

I would post LOL but it is still too painful to think about!

Rob.

Yeh thanks Rob, i needed to be reminded about that. Just checked, i have one left. I think i have only one left of most of the lures i use, they're the ones i didnt take with me that day. Oh come on aussie dollar i need to restock. Damn fishing can cost a fortune.

They're the only 2 poppers to use, Cotton cordells and the Halco Roosters.
Deepfried, there are spots you can fish on Cape Byron, they just require you to have legs like a mountain goat and know EXACTLY where the green area's are. There are still a good dozen, to dozen and a half blokes who fish the area chasing tailor, jew and GT's.

If you haven't already seen them, there are some excellent threads on making your own poppers.
Just search this forum for 'making poppers'.
Cheers.

G'day deepfried,

What did you mean by opening up Byron Bay and Broken Head again?

I use to drive to Broken Head many times but have not done so for close to 1 year now. Are the roads closed to these spots or something else?

I also would like to get to Broken Head later this month and fish for tailor if I knew where to cast from.

Cheers, Peter

Peter,
Some of the cape at Byron and Broken Hd has been made a green zone. They both still have fishable areas but just not the ones i wanted to fish when i was younger. I havent been up to Byron to work out exactly where the green zones are. Broken Hd still has a lot of good tailor spots but it is the little islands that i always wanted to get out onto. Just never got of my ar$e to do it though with a rod, only ever got there with a spear gun. Broken Hd may still be allright but close to Ballina the Tailor have moved out to get away from this dirty water from the floods.

Yeh but since dizzy sold his moulds the new blokes have hardly used them. Paul has just bought them though so hopefully we should see a new batch of dizzys being produced.
Are the fat R's the short ones with the same 45* angled face as the Dizzys have got? I don't think I've used em.

Waters absolute cr@p. I'm going out now to throw some hardbodies around but don't hold much hope. There should be some jew poking around on the current lines and the end of the wall. Heard of a 28kg fish taken but that was only word of mouth, everyone else has their lips sealed.
