hi all, a mate & i are haveing a boys weekend away staying at carlo. we have never been up this way before & was asking if a local or 2 could point us in the right direction for a few fish. i have a boat thats able to go outside, so maybe if we jaged a really good day we would go out for a look. is there any close in reefs just out side the bottom end of frazer? the fish we were hopeing to target was maceral, snapper & may be some reef fish. is there any reefy areas on the inside of fraser & what bait should we take with us? we will try to get some live bait aswell if anyone could help us out it would be greatly appreciated. happy fishing all. BILL.......

Hi BILLSMITH
Have you fished there before?? Will help me expalin a few areas
I am up there fishing offshore this weekend Saturday and Sunday myself
First point of call should be Wayne at Rainbow Beach Tackle and Camping near the centre of Town.
Not only does he have a wealth of knowledge of what's on the chew you can pick up your bait and he has two important maps for the area.
1. First is a map which outlines some of the more popular fishing areas in tin can bay, sandy staits and the inside of fraser incl. reef and species etc
2. Second is the Off shore reef map which also picks up the area on the inside and bottom of fraser
Going outside requires the crossing of Wide Bay Bar. There is reef approx 5 and 8 miles east of the bar also close off the beach for rainbow and some north of the wolf rock (note wolf rock is an exclusion zone for grey nurse sharks)
There is also reef areas up the inside of Fraser island,
Once you see the reef map you will see how extensive the reef is up there offshore
You will need to contact Tin Can Bay Coast Guardto get tha latest marks for the bar and it is worth logging on for safey reasons if going offshore
Mackeral and bait can be found (not sure if there at present) just past the outer edge of the bar gps mark. Normally there are a few boats hanging around either jigging bait or chacing macjeral if they are there.
PM me if you need more specific info
