Guys, I just bought a new Capricorn 4500j. It arrived today. While playing with it ( the reel that is ), I noticed quite a bit of slop in the handle which extends through to the tensioning cap on the other side. I can easily get around 1mm or more of movement out of it with the cap done up tight. I know its not a top end reel, but it's far from being a cheapie. Is this normal or should I be sending it back?
Cheers, Jado

I had this with my Freams 4500J which is very similar to the Capricorn
I'm not certain whether it's the same issue although I had too much freeplay in mine and changed the bush in the left hand side of the body for a decent bearing and it's way better.
I believe the Capricorn may have more bearings than the Freams although once again not sure (I'm too tired to research it at the moment) lol

Some movement in mine. I am not concerned as the reel is 3-4 years old and the movement is the same as when the reel was new. Perfect reel for running 30-40lb and really makes it hard to justify buying a Catalina at twice the price unless you intend to run 50# or better.

There is some movement, but dont try and overtighten as you will strip the plastic bush/stopper on the cap screw. Like i did.
It is a good workhorse reel but the drag surface could be bigger and the black rubber that waterproofs the drag can melt on very big fish under high drag preassure, due to heat. (spaniard)

Adding a metal washer to the handle side might work. Just an idea. I don't own a Capricorn 4500J, but if the handle is a similar setup to the Caldia Kix (which has no sideways movement in the handle) and the handle shaft is sliding back and forth through the middle of the drive gear, a washer might solve the problem.
