Evening all,

I am picking up a trailer for my boat on the weekend and have a few adjustments to make to it in order for it to suit my boat properly.I saw a trailer a while ago with this stuff on it (it looks like neoprene channel or something) and thought it was a cracking idea.

I have been thinking for ages about how to describe it when an old thread popped up and lo and behold, there is a photo of what I am after!!!

Check the photo on post #72 by John Buoy, I am after the stuff that is covering the metal areas on the roller rockers and the trailer.

Anyone know what it is called, and where I may find some.

Many thanks,

Shane,

If you try a company in Hastings, Victoria, called Magnaplas, 7 Bray St
Hastings VIC 3915, (03) 5979 4222.

They manufacture the channel as well as rollers.

that looks like a mackay trailer (i have one). The channel is plastic, almost like PVC.

Call Sandgate Custom Trailers on 38691522 and he can get it in for you.

I just finished installing it on my trailer.

Thanks guys,

Chris, did you measure it up and give him the details, or drop the trailer off and have him fit it??

I cant see it in your photo, but how are yours attached to the trailer?? I was thinking heavy duty zip ties but there has to be a better way...

Thanks all for your replies.

Shane,

Mine are held on with cable ties. they last well and are cheap. I fitted all mine between the rollers as i had to "fit to size". Its a pretty easy job.

Won’t they simply trap salt under them?

Shane,
I know Dunbiar trailers sell these if you look at their website , it could possibly be a Mackay trailer but i know Dunbiar sell them for sure not cheap either.

When I did my trailer which has six sets of rollers each side, (its about 3-4 years ago) it cost me the princely sum of about $100 for the lot. On top of that was my time to fit them to the roller carriage. A jigsaw and a cordless drill and some cable ties, plus a bit of time solved that. I also did down the middle of the trailer as well as I had had numerous problems with the trailer setup. It came in a few lengths and I just cut to size. Simple and cheap. I have not had a mark on the hull since.

As for salt, simply hose under them. They are never a perfect fit and will allow water thru.

Would it work OK as padding on the carry rack of a ute for canoes/kayacks?

Don't know. This stuff is very stiff and has a slippery finish. I think what you are after may come from a rubber factory not a hard plastic item.
