Hey all - If you are in the Wello Pt/Tingalpa Ck area check out the newly opened boat Ramp. I am quite disappointed at the result. It was closed for several months and now its reopened with good non slip concrete and reasonable parking, it does not have any boat mooring or tie up facilities. Just rocks and mangroves on either side. It would not have taken much to improve and make it easier for us one man boaties.

Anyone know if they ask for boatie opinions or otherwise before spending the thousands that this would have cost??

Cheers - Greg W:-/

Hey Greg,
Yeah I went and had a look at it the other day I thought that for losing a few mangroves they could have made it a double lane. :-/

I think that they could also have added a bit more lighting for security too. Wonder how much that pointless exercise cost us tax payers and whether it will be a reflection on any other ramps that will be 'revamped' that will be done by the bloody labour government.>:(

I think when I go the creek that I will stick to the dirt ramp next to the bridge.

Cheers

Maybe we need to lobby our local ministers re this. It certainly is disappointing that after all the effort you get a mediocre result. I guess all the experts are really not experts :(. I use the Viki point southern ramp and the number of times I have bashed the boat there because of the wind and tide is mortifying. It would be awesome to have full shelter and tie up facilities there. It wasn't a problem a few years ago but with all the wind lately it has become an issue.

Yep, used it quite a bit both before and after the revamp.
My two questions have consistently been...
A) Why not make it two lanes?
B) Why do all that, and not add in some extra car parks?
I mean, c'mon, the ramp is bigger than the car park itself.

I went and had a look and could not work it out either... a pontoon would have been a welcome addition...

I should add that I'm very grateful for the work that they did do. It's a vast improvement over what was there. I just question why they didn't spend that little more to improve it that little more.
With the time to move all the equipment in and out, put out the water barrier thing etc, I couldn't imagine that adding a second lane would have added more than 15-20%, if that.

Sounds a little like the manly ramp up grade , now that the epa has moved in next to the ramp there is enough beach for 3 boats and a 4 lane ramp what a joke .
Now they need to spend some money on the southern end ramp so larger boats can use it .

Thanks guys for your support, I thought that I may have just been getting old and turning?? into a cranky old f_rt!
I feel inclined to contact the Redland Council whom I presume did the work but doubt that I would get anywhere. Probably just make me crankier....

Cheers GW
