Spyware and intrusive software promoted by Ausfish

I was browsing the site today and looking at some pictures that were posted by another member. With the pictures there was a NEXT button under them which appears to be taking you to the next picture in the series. I was astonished to find that it wasn't but was a promo for some program that attempted to check my registry. Fortunately my anti virus intercepted the invasion but this may not be the case for everyone. On review I can see that the bottom of the picture is an ad, but it is an extremely misleading and deceptive ad.

I understand that you need to raise dollars but to blatantly and deceitfully condone security breaches of a member’s computer is utterly unacceptable. This is supposedly a board for the fishing fraternity, promoting fishing and friendship amongst this community. It is accessed by people of all ages and computer literacy who may not have the computer security or knowledge to protect themselves and the other uses of the computer, their privacy and particularly their private and sensitive information.

Unless you are prepared to indemnify all members from the possible damages and intrusion of privacy I would suggest that you review who you sell advertising space to and ensure that clearly misleading and dangerous promotions such as this are no longer endorsed.

The ads are run by Google. As stated in other threads, just send me the URL and I can ad it to the block list.

I doubt that the ad or the site put you in any harm, Google vets their ads very well. Spyware software is often triggered but not necessarily a major event.

What software are you using?

What was the URL or name of the site?

How do you know it was checking your registry? Real spyware/malware wouldn't be so obvious.

It is a registry checker and may be a perfectly innocous site but I have my doubts. If it is above board then it would ask me if I wanted to have the registry checked before trying to probe my computer.

I don't where it was trying to look and what it was trying to look at but my anti virus software certainly didn't want it looking around and locked it out. I opened a thumbnail picture and the ad was beneath it. But it is using a "next" button which looks like the next picture but on rexamination is next to go to the registry checker or whatever it is. I have no problem with people trying to earn a bob but when someone does it without my permission then I doubt thier honesty.

That link opens a website for Reghelper. Reghelper is a program that you can download. What you saw was a simulation of how Reghelper Works.

It's a harmless site secured by VeriSign.

It does have a popup that also shows in detail how the program works. What you program would have blocked is the popup.

I have a firewall with a popup blocker and I have an antivirus program that detects a possible virus. The antivirus program is not reacting to a pop up but denying access to a program that exhibits virus tendencies. The firewall is stopping the pop up.
